5 Natural Ways to Keep Your South Tampa Home Pest Proof
Pests are a part of life-the
unwanted part of life that is. Everyone encounters a pest problem in their home
at least once in their lifetime. Here's good news for South Tampa homeowners:
You can avoid having encounters with these pests and get rid of them for good!
What's more, you don't need to pay a pricey fee to an exterminator. Just go to
the kitchen or make a quick fix from your garden and these pests will surely
put your house on their blacklist!
Here are 5 non-toxic,
natural and practical ways to keep your South Tampa home pest-free:
1. Peppermint Oil - We love
this stimulating scent we find in herbal teas, toothpaste and gum. Mice suffer
from the peppermint smell. Make a peppermint spray with 1/4 cup of water and 40
drops of peppermint oil and spray freely beneath the sink, along baseboards and
interior edges of kitchen cabinets. You can also soak cotton balls with the oil
and put them on entry points.
2. Citrus - Spray or wipe
citrus solution around the house to keep spiders away. To make the solution,
mix water and unsweetened lemon or lime juice.
3. Vinegar - Ants find their
way through scent trails. Wipe countertops or any other surfaces where you spot
ants with a 50/50 solution of vinegar and water to destroy their scent trails.
4. Cinnamon Bark Oil - Aside
from making your home smell yummy, cinnamon bark oil has been proven to control
dust mites. Add several drops of it into
a 50/50 solution of denatured alcohol and water and spray it on your carpets,
beddings or anywhere in the house where dust collects.
5. Plant Basil - Basil can
be planted in pots so you can place them anywhere in the house where flies
enter like doorways and windowsills. You can also put them on the kitchen
counter to keep flies off the food. If you don't have time to take care of plants,
use dried basil instead. Put them in muslin pouches and rub them once in a
while to keep its strong smell.
